Yard Safety Improvements, Peterborough

This project, at Tesco’s Peterborough Distribution Centre, was completed over two phases to allow for works to be delivered prior to and after the Christmas shutdown, and was designed to deliver a number of safety improvements.

Phase One works involved the installation or new lineage, traffic signage, protection barriers, speed cameras, speed tables and wheel stops.

Works carried out as Phase Two, involved the installation of a 3,500m2 concrete hard standing and new lighting around the trailer park along with CCTV and perimeter fencing. An existing area within the staff car park, which was used as an overspill for storing flower pots, was broken out and replaced with a reinforced concrete slab to provide parking spaces for 29 HGVs. This was done to reduce the pressure, and potential hazard, of vehicles parking within the existing service yard as part of an ongoing improvement plan by Tesco, who are continually look to enhance the safety levels of their facilities.

Alongside a further two schemes that were delivered at Tesco’s Distribution Centres in Daventry, the combined programme of works was valued at approximately £800k.
