This project involves a single storey extension to an existing children’s ward in the Paediatric Unit. It provides increased accommodation with 4 new single bedrooms with associated support facilities, 3 additional parking spaces and new paved access pathways.
The structure incorporates an SFS steel frame construction with Siberian Larch cladding, set on deep foundations and new drainage excavations. Lightweight Metsec trusses and a Kingspan insulated roofing system has been installed, with Velfac Composite external doors and windows. The plant is housed externally in a steel frame unit incorporating AHU.
The building has been orientated to optimize views out from the bedrooms, and carefully located to ensure the retention of the existing protected mature trees.
