The site is located in a quiet cul-de-sac within a local authority housing estate, with great transport connections and close to local shops. The existing derelict dwellings were demolished, and the 2 new 3 and 4 storey blocks built on their footprints either side of a central parking and turning circle.
The north block is Nicholas Court with 23 apartments for social rent, and the south block is Turnbull Court with 20 apartments for shared ownership. There is also a 3 bedroom house.
It is of traditional construction with brick and block cavity walls, finished with partially flat and pitched roofs with clay tiles, and PV panels. Full height privacy screens were provided on the balconies to the boundary, and there are communal gardens with cycle and bin storage.
A phased completion was required following a delay on-site, due to the early discovery of a Thames Water sewer running through the proposed footprint of the south block, which needed diverting.
Additional design challenges included detailing for the duplex apartments in the north block, and ground engineering for concrete retaining walls on the south block, to construct a split lower ground floor level to accommodate the contour of the site.
