This project saw the traditional construction of a new single storey crematorium building with approximately 582m2 internal floor area, externally hard-landscaped areas, landscaped gardens, associated site boundary treatments and off-site highway works.
The new building has 2 distinct areas; firstly, the large chapel in which services take place, alongside a series of internal and external waiting areas, and ancillary spaces where mourners comfortably congregate in advance of their service. These are identified by a double height space, clad externally in vertical timber rainscreen cladding and a dual-pitched sedum roof.
The second area is the crematory, administration and staff facilities. A catafalque provides the interface between the chapel and crematory, leading to the coffin transfer space. The cremators and associated equipment are housed in a plant room adjacent to the coffin committal area. Beyond this are administration and back of house facilities for staff and visitors. The waiting areas, porte-cochere and administration facilities are unified by a single low roof element, and privacy is addressed through clerestory windows.
