Located on vacant land, this new 76 bedroom dementia care home was built over 2 and 3 storeys, and was a re-provision project to provide new homes for the client’s existing residents. The base construction consists of concrete strip foundations, masonry cavity walls with integrated steel frame and pre-cast plank floors. It was required to meet a BREEAM Excellent rating and has design features including brise soleil, through colour render, vertical brickwork and Thermowood boarding.
The main reception leads into the spacious double height café area, with coffered ceiling and 3D effect hand plastered casings cleverly disguising the external wall beams. 5 staircases and 2 lifts service the building, with centrally located rooms including clinical, laundry, kitchen, staff changing, therapy and cinema.
The residences are split into 5 colour coded ‘households’, each having 15 bedrooms with wet room ensuites, and a communal assisted bathroom, kitchenette, disabled WC, lounge, sunroom and external balcony. Each bedroom is accessed through a colour coded front entrance door, with a ‘memory box’ for each tenant to personalise. Sustainable features include green roofs, PVs, CHP system, rainwater attenuation, and SuDS in the car park.
