Aidan started his career more than four decades ago, initially setting-up his own business in 1980 specialising in historic building restoration. In the late 1980s, he joined Symm – a large, well established, building company in Oxford, where he rose to the position of Chief Executive. In 2016, Aidan joined the advisory board of Chicago-based construction group Bulley & Andrews. He then joined the board of Jarvis Group and has also recently joined the board of London-based contractor Knowles.
During his career, Aidan has managed contracts in the UK, Europe, Russia and America, including major refurbishment projects for Oxford University, large private residential schemes, and multiple construction projects for chef Raymond Blanc at Belmond Hotel’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. Aidan has a wealth of experience, working with notable architects and designers throughout his career, and has been involved on many significant buildings including the Queens Gallery, Buckingham Palace, The Royal Opera House, the Savoy Apartments and various National Trust properties.
Aidan is a governor of the Building Crafts College in East London, and served as a governor of Ackworth School in Yorkshire for 12 years. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Chartered Institute of Building, and the Royal Society of Arts, also sitting on the judging panel of The Prince’s Foundation’s – Building Craft Programme.
