This project comprised the construction of a steel frame with zinc cladding and sustainable American cedar timber boarding. The new structure was situated on traditional strip foundation with beam and block flooring.
The internal finishes included decorated fair-faced blockwork together with Ultro timber safe flooring. Male and female changing rooms and showers and toilets were also constructed and a kitchen and catering area installed, together with a gas fired water heating system in combination with underfloor heating.
The Football Foundation, Sport England, Wren, Biff Award and NHDC donated the majority of the construction costs, while local events such as quiz nights and summer fetes brought the community together to achieve the one goal of getting the pavilion built.
This project demonstrates how financial investment can become intertwined with social investment and shows holistically how the value of the community can increase by embarking on the procurement process.
